Abstract
Fractal Image Compression is one of the essential techniques used for textures and natural image compression by using their self-similarity. The main advantages of fractal compression are, achieves a higher compression rate and maintaining the quality of the image, but this technique faces slow encoding time, each range block needs to find a well-matched domain block from the domain pool, which must do an intensive search time. To reduce the computation time required for the encoding process with improvements in both fidelity and compression ratio, we construct a flexible domain pool encoder based on a combination of image segmentation techniques and fractal coding. A comparison between recent fractal image compression algorithms and the proposed introduced.
